About nine months ago, Kelsey Margey was a Harborfields (Greenlawn, Long Island, N.Y.) sophomore who had never set foot on a track or cross-country course.  She had just completed her soccer season, however, and she was looking for something different to do over the winter, something that could keep her in shape for her true passion – lacrosse.  Why not go out for indoor track?  She loved to run – it was one of the strengths she had as a midfielder – and maybe she would like it even more than basketball, which she had played in previous winters.

If you had approached Kelsey during one of her early practices last November, and told her that she would win races; that she would not just qualify for state, but win at state; that she would score at national meets and that her running would take her to places like Boston, Oregon and the Caribbean … Well, Kelsey might just have looked at you like you were from Mars.
